Hot Tech Tips
Assemblies
Re-ordering parts in the Feature Manager. Most people are aware that you can re-sequence parts in an assembly by simply clicking on their icon in the Feature Manager, and dragging the part to a new location. This same method can be used to drag a component down into, or up out of, a subassembly, (Solidworks help files call this ‘promotion’ and ‘demotion’). However, if the desired location for a part is just after a subassembly, it is easy to accidentally demote the part into the subassembly. To prevent this, hold down the ALT key as you drag the component. The ALT key will temporarily suppress Promotion and Demotion, permitting you to relocate the part with confidence.
