Now Is the Time to Update to SolidWorks Service Pack 1.1
We are advising all of our customers to update their SolidWorks installations as soon as possible to SolidWorks 2004 Service Pack 5, or SolidWorks 2005 Service Pack 1.1 or later.
Late last year, SolidWorks discovered some possible conflicts between some versions of SolidWorks and Windows XP Service Pack 2. After several months of testing and working with Microsoft, these issues have been addressed in the most current SolidWorks Service Packs. Issues ranged from installation script errors to printing problems. Issues were (unofficially) caused by changes to the Windows XP operating system (OS) which are meant to tighten system security.
This is an important time to update your SolidWorks because according to Microsoft, "Beginning April 12, 2005, systems with Automatic Update enabled or systems that connect to and interactively download Windows XP SP2 through Windows Update will begin receiving SP2." This is also known as the "Automatic Update blocker lift". As a result, your system may be automatically upgraded to Windows XP Service Pack 2. More information can be found here: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/deploy/xpsp2dep.mspx
Your current SolidWorks Service Pack can be determined by running SolidWorks and choosing "Help - About SolidWorks" from the menus.
To update SolidWorks, you will need to login to www.solidworks.com/pages/services/subscription. You will need your SolidWorks serial number. Follow the prompts to download the appropriate service pack. Run the service pack by double-clicking the downloaded file. You will be prompted to insert your original SolidWorks installation CDs during the update to verify software ownership (a Microsoft requirement).
Finally, SolidWorks Service Pack 1.1 addresses software problems discovered in SolidWorks SP0.0. We at Computer-Aided Products feel that SP1.1 is a more robust and stable environment than SP0.0 and recommend it to all our customers regardless of the XP issues.
