Skip Barber Racing School accelerates race car design with SolidWorks software. Engineers have reduced design time by as much as 80 percent, improved car performance, and cut costs using SolidWorks.
Computer-Aided Products is proud to provide the training and support for Skip Barber's engineering innovations. Read press release
“AutoCAD® was too much work, and making changes was very cumbersome,” said James Achard, lead engineer for operations at Skip Barber Racing School. “When we design in SolidWorks, the outcome is right the first time, which lets us finish projects faster and save money on expensive track testing time. Moreover, SolidWorks streamlines design processes, freeing us to be more creative so we can design better products.”

The Wohlers Report 2006 indicates steep demand for
3D printer technology through 2010. The Dimension 3D Printing Group, announced it is the first 3D printing technology provider to ship more than 1,000 3D printers in one year, according to the recently issued Wohlers Report 2006. Dimension shipped nearly 42 percent of the 2,528 3D printer units sold worldwide in 2005. The entire rapid prototyping and 3D printing industry, which includes products and services, grew 14.6% to an estimated $808.5 million in 2005. Revenues generated by 3D printer sales were up 35.2% , making 3D printers the fastest growing segment of the industry. The report also states the market demand for 3D printers could reach 15,000 units annually by 2010. Hot Tech Tips SolidWorks Animator Tech Tip: Two Easy Steps to Nicer Exploded View Motion
The SolidWorks Animator is an add-in that is included with every seat of SolidWorks Office, SolidWorks Office Professional, and SolidWorks Office Premium. Among other things, it allows you to create AVI files showing an assembly exploding and collapsing.
A basic exploded view animation is very easy to set up using the Animation Wizard. Presented here are two quick and easy tips to tweak the basic exploded view so that it gives a nicer presentation than initially created by the Wizard.
Tip #1: Overlap the Keys to create simultaneous motion of explode steps.
The default animation will show each explode step in rigid series. For a nicer effect, select the Keys representing the start and end times of each explode step and drag them slightly to overlap. This will give the explode a more flowing feel to it. As a shortcut, you can Ctrl-select or Shift-select several Keys as a group to drag left or right all at once!
Tip #2: Change the Interpolation mode from "Linear" to "Ease in/Ease out".
Window-select all the Keys of the explode motion and right click on one of them to see the pop-up menu. Choose Interpolation mode > Ease in/Ease out. This will make the motion appear more organic and less mechanical, for a pleasing effect.
