Computer-Aided Products Engineer Wins World Cup of Engineering Challenges

CAP Engineering Manager Named Top Winner Worldwide in SolidWorks “Model Mania” Design Contest

Manchester, NH (February 6, 2006) – Computer-Aided Products (CAP) is proud to announce that Jason Pancoast, engineering manager at CAP took first place in the annual "Model Mania" design contest at the SolidWorks World Annual International User Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.   Pancoast correctly completed the solid modeling challenge in the fastest time and accepted his award in front of 3,700 attendees from around the globe.

The Model Mania competition tests participants to determine the contestant who could accurately model a component in the shortest period of time. Contestants are given a 2D drawing from which a 3D model must be created using SolidWorks® software. The contest gauges the user's knowledge of not only SolidWorks functionality, but also his/her ability to apply design intent to a model.

After the participant is finished creating the model, a surprise design change must be completed before the final time is recorded.

"I enjoyed the opportunity to compete against some of the world's most passionate SolidWorks users," said Pancoast. "As a Certified SolidWorks Instructor, I've taught hundreds of engineers how to accelerate their design processes by using the power of SolidWorks. The software’s intuitive interface really encourages engineers to think creatively, design easily, and build a 3D model in a very short period of time."

“We have an extensive internal training program for our engineering staff, and this was the first time one of our engineers was put to the test,” said Dana Seero, president of Computer-Aided Products. “This competition was an interesting challenge to operate under some of the pressure design engineers face every day and see if our program is on track. At CAP, we strive to equip our customers with the skills to help them win in the competitive marketplace.”

“Jason’s outstanding performance highlights the technical competency that we value in the certified engineers at our support organizations,” said Rainer Gawlick, vice president of marketing for SolidWorks Corporation. “Congratulations to Jason for being at the forefront of SolidWorks technologies and engineering design expertise, and to the entire Computer-Aided Products team for its dedication to customer success and satisfaction.“

Pancoast is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Boston University. Prior to joining CAP, he was a mechanical engineer at GE Aircraft Engines and a manufacturing process consultant. He is a Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) and Instructor, and a Certified COSMOSWorks Support Technician. Pancoast's enthusiasm for engineering design and analysis has resulted in his selection to present at four SolidWorks World conventions, three New England SolidWorks User Group meetings, and he is a featured presenter at CAP University events.
